A strut card is the thing people read while they wait: the WiFi password, today's bake, a QR code for reviews. It stands on its own on a counter, a table or a shelf, with no holder and no tape.

We print it full colour on 5mm foam board and fit a fold-out strut to the back. Order by 3pm and it's ready today, so the sign can change as fast as the menu does.

QR codes · six rules

Make it scan first time.

A QR code on a strut card only earns its space if it scans. These six things make the difference between a scan and a shrug.

01Make it big enoughAt least 25mm square on A5, 40mm on A4 and A3. People scan from where they're standing, not with their nose on the card.

02Leave a white borderKeep a clear margin round the code, about four of its little squares wide. Without it, phones struggle to find the edges.

03Dark on lightBlack or navy on white or cream scans best. Never reverse it out (white on dark), and keep it off busy photos.

04Say what it does“Scan for WiFi” or “Scan for the menu” next to it. A bare QR code gets ignored.

05Test before you sendScan the code on your screen with two different phones before you upload. If it opens the right page, it'll work on the card.

06Use a link that lastsPoint it at a page you control, so you can change where it goes without reprinting the card.

Six things to get right on a strut card.

One PDF, at size

Send a PDF at the card size: A5 is 148 × 210mm, A4 210 × 297mm, A3 297 × 420mm. Portrait. JPEG and PNG are fine too.

Bleed and safe area

Run backgrounds 3mm past the edge on every side, no crop marks. Keep text and logos 5mm in from the trim.

QR codes

At least 25mm square on A5 and 40mm on A4 and A3, dark on light, with a clear white border. Test it on two phones before you upload.

Text size

Nothing under 10pt on A5, 12pt on A4 and A3. The headline wants to be readable from a metre away.

Resolution

300dpi at the card size. Screenshots and images from WhatsApp will look soft.

Colour

CMYK is safest. RGB prints fine, but neon greens and electric blues come out a touch duller. Flatten transparency before you export.

What is a strut card?

A printed card with a fold-out leg (the strut) on the back, so it stands up on its own on a counter, table or shelf. Ours are printed on 5mm foam board.

How does the strut work?

It's a card leg fixed to the back on a hinge. It lies flat in the post. Fold it out and it props the card at a gentle lean.

What sizes can I get?

A5 (148 × 210mm), A4 (210 × 297mm) and A3 (297 × 420mm). Other sizes by email quote: hello@rapidprintpro.com.

How much are they?

From £19 for one A5, £21 for A4 and £23 for A3, ex VAT. Order five and they drop to £15, £17 and £18 each.

Portrait or landscape?

Portrait as standard. If yours is landscape, email hello@rapidprintpro.com before you order and we'll confirm.

Can I wipe them clean?

Yes. The printed face wipes clean with a damp cloth, which is handy next to a coffee machine.

Can they go outside?

They're made for indoors. Foam board doesn't like rain. For outside, look at correx boards.

Can I get them the same day?

Yes. Order by 3pm, Monday to Friday, and they're printed today. Collect free from 27 Tabard Street, SE1 4LA, have them couriered across London (arrives same day, £45), or DPD next working day from £6.99.

Will my QR code scan?

If it scans on your screen, it'll scan on the card, as long as it's big enough and dark on light. See the six rules above.

No artwork. Can you design it?

Yes. Send the words, your logo and any QR link to hello@rapidprintpro.com and we'll lay it out and send a proof before printing.

Are prices ex VAT?

Yes. 20% VAT is added at checkout. The price box at the top shows both, plus the delivery you've picked.
